The Department of Justice is committed to encouraging the participation of all Canadians and justice-sector stakeholders in the development of law, policy and programs, as well as in identifying emerging trends in law and policy. To this end, the Department uses many different types of public participation activities, ensuring that a broad cross-section of views are taken into consideration when developing law and policy. In the past, the results of public participation activities have influenced the development of policy on youth justice, crime prevention and the rights of victims of crime, as well as specific questions of law reform and policy. The Department's public participation activities are guided by our Strategic Plan 2001-2005 and the Policy Statement and Guidelines for Public Participation: Department of Justice (PDF PDF Help).

Outreach and Partnerships

Outreach and Partnerships was created by the Department of Justice to catalogue, coordinate and develop Outreach activities for the Department. The Outreach and Partnerships initiative is a national program that works closely with all Canadians through the Department's headquarters in Ottawa and our regional offices throughout the country.

Outreach and Partnerships is committed to seeking a diversity of views and opinions from Canadians. Through the formation of strategic partnerships with academia, the private bar, students, the corporate sector and public sector, the Department is committed to both enhancing traditional relationships and building creative, new relationships. It is through the creation and maintenance of these relationships that the Department will continue to find innovative solutions to the increasingly complex legal environment in Canada. With your participation we can work together to build a stronger and more informed justice system.
